- use only pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 for 10-100Mbps connection

crossover
- both ends have different configuration
- used for peer to peer connection
- 568A and 568B

roll-over
- used to configure a router
- router: console port; pc: DB-9 port
- 1-8; 8-1 (interchange)
